In a recent conversation about the harder parts of the Old Testament, someone said, “I don’t understand the point of it all – it’s so confusing – why read it at all?!?” I understood where he was coming from. So often (especially when reading the Old Testament) it can seem as if all we can see is the backside of that tapestry – threads, knots and loose ends everywhere! But oh my friends, lean into those moments when Holy Spirit threads the powerful truths of Scriptures into our lives in such beautiful ways.

The hard parts of history, the law, the genealogies, the divisions of land, the war-torn passages, the ups and downs and ins and out of humanity are all for our good and his glory!

Then when we land on a truth such as Joshua 21:45, we make deeper connections. New Testament and Old Testament are stitched together to weave a tapestry of the favor and steadfast love of God.

dāḇār – the commands and promises, the word – the advice and matter of the Lord

It all matters!

The word of the Lord is alive, it always accomplishes what it sets out to do in our lives! And just like Joshua 21:45 and 2 Corinthians 1:20 say – ALL His promises come to pass for our good and HIS glory!

Read it all – trusting and knowing it is enough!
