It was early summer when I heard my Pastor coin the phrase, “Grid of the Gospel.” He was exhorting us to always view our life and our situations through a biblical lens, never forgetting God is in control and His truth is the only truth. However, if I am being totally honest, I often struggle and lose sight of this. I suppose that is why when I heard “grid of the gospel” it arrested my attention. And, as you can see (a whole season later) is still in my heart and on my mind.
For those of you who follow me and read anything I write, you have more than likely picked up on the fact I LOVE word studies! They are my jam!! So, when I began thinking about what it would mean to live my life using the “grid of the gospel,” of course I had to study the words: GRID and GOSPEL. What I found may not be new to some of you, but it stirred something inside of me (still is.) I wish I could tell you all these months later I have daily put into practice what the Lord has been sharing with me, but many times I have not. Nevertheless, God is still faithful to walk beside me and challenge me to lean in and once more appeal to Holy Spirit to whisper truth to my soul.
I take a deep breath, look out the window, and listen.
God’s Righteous Instruction (and) Direction
What joyful challenge and comfort it is when the chapters and verses of the good news and message of Jesus Christ (the Gospel) run parallel and perpendicular to one another, pointing the way which I should go – the most divinely perfect map ever to be created. That perfect GRID is the framework for our lives.
I have never prided myself in being able to read maps well, or even to remember directions I have followed time and time again. To say I am directionally challenged is an understatement! But the grid of the gospel is something I cannot afford to tuck away in the glove box of life, only to be used as a last resort. His Word is to be a daily lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. There is no need for us to stumble around in the darkness needlessly.
He truly is a relentless Savior who calls after my heart day after day. He never leaves. He never forsakes. His righteous instruction reveals how to live out our lives in practical ways – behaving justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with Him, trusting in His way, and believing in His love for us. He directs our steps lest we stumble and fall time and again on our own.
I am grateful He passionately writes His truth onto my heart week after week, sermon after sermon, and morning by morning. He is the most wonderful Friend – and the ultimate cartogropher!
